Ready to Get Started in Racing?
In 1983, Cliff Bailey began to make his own name in the Thoroughbred industry when he purchased a filly for $20,000 at the Fasig-Tipton October Sale in Kentucky and turned her for $130,000 just 6 months later at the April Kennington 2 Year Olds in Training Sale, the only training sale in Kentucky at the time.
There’s nothing Cliff loves more than to see one of his horses sale at auction or cross the finish line first. He has managed many large farms in Texas including the Rafter L Ranch, a 400 acre facility owned by the Bonham’s of the JB Weld Company, and Double Infinity Ranch.
At Rafter L Ranch, Cliff trained the stakes winning mare Repository. Repository earned over $350,000 and flew to California, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Kentucky to race. He also trained the stakes placed mare Go Girlfriend Go, who raced successfully in Texas, Louisiana and Kentucky.
Additionally, Cliff has spent much of his career promoting the horse industry in East Texas and Hopkins County. In partnership with Rafter L Ranch, Cliff coordinated “The Night of the Horse” in Hopkins County for two years in a row. At these events, Cliff was able to bring in top trainers and breeders in racing as well as other breeds and disciplines, including breeder of miniature horses and Olympic Gold Winner Robert Richards. One of these top trainers was the famous Kentucky Derby winner trainer, D. Wayne Lukas. Lukas spoke on what he looks for in a racing prospect and even disclosed one of his top conformation secrets.
With his knowledge of the racing industry and his eye for good conformation and movement, he can help you get started in any aspect of the racing industry whether you’re interested in the thrill of the race or the excitement of the auction ring.
